T.V. Relates to Science

I recently watch Spongebob Squarepants, and I saw science in it. Sqiudward got locked in a freezer and went to the future. There, he knew he had to get back. So the Spongebobs of the future gave him a time mahine to use. Then Squidward went to the past by accident he there invented things. This connects to science by the time machine. The time machine was invented and made of electrical items and power. Squidward also invented some things in the past that was used in the present day. That relates because it was invented lke all great scientists do. This shows that television can relate to science even if it's a cartoon like Spongebob.

Snowacane

This snowstorm that we have had recently, is related to a hurricane. A hurricane forms by having warm water and air. When the warm air from the water rises, making low pressure and cold air below it. The snowstorm we just had is just the same exept as the process was happening, snow fell because of the high level of cold air. The wind was shy of the power of hurricane wind. The waind was knocking over trees and powerlines all day. We had about one to two feet of snow during this storm. This effected the community because no one was permitted to drive on the roads and some trees were knocked down and power was out for hours.

How Toothpick Bridges Have To Do With Math

In our math class, we have been building toothpick bridges. How does this relate to math you might ask? Well there can be many inequalities in building anything. Foe example, if the maximum height of the bridge is 44 centimeters, then an inequality would be x<44 cm. Another mathematical way of thinking in the way of building is when you have to make sure you know how high you want it to be or how long. An example of this is that you can make a one to one inch scale on a graph paper if building a toothpick bridge. But if you were building a real bridge it could be a one to one hundredth scale on graph paper. One last way that building a toothpick bridge could relate to math is because the whole system of solving a math problem is the same. When building a bridge, you need a reason why to build which relates to a problem in a math problem. Next, you need the work on the bridge, which relates to the work on solving a problem. Finally, you will have an answer on weather or not your bridge can hold enough weight or not, which relates to having an answer to a problem. Then you get an A+ on both if math is done correctly. These are some of the many reasons why building a toothpick bridge can be important to a math students curriculum.

First Complete Robot

Hanson Robotics introduced the world's first complete robot on September 13, 2007. According to their website, their robot has a fantastic combination of an expressive face, a walking body, vision, speech and hearing. As much fun as the robot appears to be, I was impressed by the Albert Einstein creation on their website. The video demos the walking robot and clearly shows the life-like facial movements it looks like a real guy.This robot costs tens of thousands of dollars and rising probably. Currently, this robot is 17 inches tall and 6 pounds, it is the only robot listed. However, several HumanKind models exist, including:

1. Joey Chaos: the Humanoid Rock Star.
2. A collaboration of East and West: The Albert.
3. A robotic humanoid sculpture named Vera.
4. Jules, our androgynous conversationalist.
5. The best of all worlds: Eva.
6. One of the first: Yargh-bot.
7. A robotic portrait of Philip K. Dick who is not for sale.
Some of the features are followed:
- Make over 62 facial and neck muscles.
- Embedded micro-cameras providing vision.
- Has the latest in A.I. software technology for face and speech understanding.
- Portable and can run on up to 1/20 the power required for other products.
- Connects with standard computers.
- Can function in many research environments, including computer vision.

Chemical Reactions Narrative.

Our goal for this lab was to hit the window three times in a row with a cork using chemical reactions. The supplies that we had to work with was vinegar, baking soda, a test tube, and a cork. Our first attempt to hit the window was to have 12 ml of baking soda, and 20 ml of vinegar. That try was pretty good, we got 614 cm. Our next try was way worse. We thought it would be better if we had less vinegar and baking soda. So we put 7.5 ml of baking soda and 12 ml of vinegar. But we then realized that less substances meant less pressure which brought us down to 270 cm. We decided that we should just raise the baking soda to 10 ml and keep the vinegar the same. That was worse than our second attempt. We got 269 cm. This time we kept our baking soda the same and raised our vinegar to 20 ml. That try was almost as good as our first try, because we got 545 cm. We decided that we should keep our measurements the same, but to make a bigger reaction, we needed more baking soda. So we raised it up 2 ml. That was our best so fare. We got 687 cm. Even though we did good on that one, we decided to change it. We left the baking soda alone and lowered the vinegar by 8 ml. We got 150 cm. Next, we put the vinegar back to the way it was before and raised the baking soda by 1 ml. Right as we were about to shoot, our cork got stuck so we got 0 cm as our distance. We had lost hope by then, but then a miracle happened. We hit the window. We hit the window by going back to the basics, which was our first try. Next, we hoped to hit the window again, and we did by keeping everything the same but raising the vinegar by 2 ml. If we hit the window one more time. We would get our extra credit. We used the same measurements, but this time our angle was off, so we only got 540 cm. We used the same measurements once more and we hit the window. We hit the window once more using the same measurements. We only had one more chance to hit the window. We decided to use the same measurements because we hit the window four times with those measurements. We shot the cork and it was about to hit the window, but it hit the metal part of the bottom of the window and bounced onto the window. We thought we lost it, but our science teacher let us have it. So in the end, we got our ten points extra credit for this assignment.
