World's Largest Snake

Recently paleontologists from the Florida Museum of Natural History at the University of Florida in Gainesville found a fossil of snake in a coalmine in Columbia, South America under a pile of rocks. The snake fossil might be the largest snake in the world. The snake fossil that they found weighed over a ton and was twelve point eight meters in length. The fossilized snake was a prehistoric version of todays boa constrictor. Each of the snakes dozen or so vertebrae were at least ten centimeters across which is about twice the size of the longest vertebae on an anaconda. This unnamed species was so big that it would have trouble fitting through your office door. The longest snake ever was only ten meters long and this one was about thirteen meters. Figuring that this snake was really long and it weighed so much scientists are begining to question if it's a snake. Other scientists arebelieving that it is a snake because it is long, scaley and it has no legs. So far, scientist are still looking for more fossils that have prehistoric markings but they have only found a turtle fossil and it's head was as big as a dinner plate and his shell was two meters across both ways. Scientists keep on looking and hopfully they will find a fossil that could be one of the largest prehistoric animals yet. It is important to find these fossils so that we can learn more about the prehistoric animals, their habitats and how they evolved through time.
